Robert De Niro Sunglass from Casino Movie at Auction

Vintage Frames Company acquires the iconic sunglass worn by Robert de Niro in the movie Casino

Vintage Frames Company, the iconic eyewear establishment pioneered by industry figurehead Corey Shapiro, is proud to reveal the acquisition of the original Ultra Goliath II frame as worn by Robert De Niro in the movie Casino.

Vintage Frames Company, regarded as the largest purveyors and collectors of designer vintage eyewear in the world, secured the frame in a competitve auction process via Propstore in Los Angeles and was finally  sold to Vintage Frames Company for a hammer price of $8500, total of $11536.02 with dealer fees and taxes. Once again, VFC's sourcing and securing of truly iconic eyewear cements their reputation as the most committed archivers and collectors in this category.

A loving period of VFC archive ownership has now commenced, and some time in the future, this historic piece of movie history will also be available to another like-minded collector of iconic eyewear to acquire.

Robert De Niro's iconic sunglasses changed the course of fashion history with his role as Ace Rothstein in the 1995 film Casino. This role and scene catapulted this silhouette to be synonymous with power, transforming the wearer into a more confident person. Often emulated in various roles to portray a larger-than-life persona, the XXL frame went on to transcend from film to music and popular culture.

This iconic piece went on to also be seen and worn by a wide variety of famous faces including Elliot Gould as Rueben Tishkoff in the Ocean's Eleven movie franchise, the legendary Harry Caray of the Chicago Cubs, movie director George Romero, singer the The Weekend, and was famously the style of choice for the recent sold out collaboration between Vintage Frames Company and RUN DMC, to celebrate the group's 35th anniversary in music, using the VFC XXL style.
